Moving From Crisis to Recovery: Our Process
Flood restoration is a science that requires more than just a mop and bucket. We follow a logical progression to return your property to a state that is not only dry on the surface but structurally sound.
Immediate Water Removal
The first few hours are critical. We use high-capacity pumps and extraction tools to remove standing water. By lowering the volume of water quickly, we prevent it from wicking higher into your drywall and insulation.
"Can My Wood Floors Be Saved?" Dealing with Different Materials
Every material reacts differently to being submerged. Our goal is always to save as much of your original property as possible.
- Hardwood floors. If we can get the water off quickly and start the drying process, we can often save wood floors. However, prolonged exposure can lead to "cupping" or "crowning," where the wood fibers swell and warp.
- Drywall and baseboards. These act like sponges. If water sits for too long, the core of the drywall degrades. We often perform "flood cuts" to remove the damaged lower portion of the wall, allowing the internal structure to dry.
- Concrete slabs. While concrete seems solid, it is actually porous. We use targeted drying techniques to pull moisture out of basement floors and slabs to prevent lingering dampness and odors.
What to Do While Waiting for Our Crew
While we mobilize our team, these steps can help stabilize the environment if it is safe to do so:
- Prioritize safety first. Never enter a room with standing water if the electricity is still on. If the main breaker is safely accessible, turning off the power is the most important first step.
- Move high-value items. Get electronics, documents, and small furniture to a dry area. For heavy furniture, place aluminum foil or wood blocks under the legs to prevent "wicking" and carpet stains.
- Open windows if the air is dry. If the rain has stopped and the outdoor humidity is lower than it is inside, opening windows can help start the air circulation process.
- Avoid "DIY" pumping. Standard shop-vacs are not designed for large volumes and cannot reach moisture trapped inside walls. It is usually best to wait for industrial-grade extraction.
